Luminous Layers: Abstract Landscapes with Rice Paper & Watercolor - February
Luminous Layers: Abstract Landscapes with Paper & Water
February 26th | 10AM–3PM
February 27th | 10AM–1PM
$165 per person | All supplies included
This immersive, mixed-media watercolor workshop invites you to create richly layered abstract landscapes with glowing depth, soft edges, and a lush, almost encaustic finish.
Using rice paper and other translucent papers, we’ll explore wet-on-wet watercolor techniques to build light from the inside out. You’ll begin by attaching an initial layer of paper infused with color to establish luminosity and movement. From there, we’ll layer additional papers, pigments, and metallic accents to create shifting fields of color—landscapes that feel atmospheric, emotional, and expansive.
Throughout the process, we’ll work intuitively while also addressing composition, balance, and color relationships. Metallic watercolors and metal foils may be incorporated for subtle highlights and visual surprise. A final satin acrylic varnish brings everything together, enhancing depth and creating a velvety, encaustic-like surface.
This class is designed as a creative experience for all skill levels. Whether you come with inspiration photos to loosely abstract or prefer to let the materials guide you, the process will be tailored to your creative goals.
Depending on humidity and drying time, finished work may need to be picked up on a later date.
All materials are provided.
Come ready to experiment, learn from each other, and—most importantly—create without fear.
A Note About The Studio: My studio is located in the beautiful Lakeside Neighborhood of Duluth. Inside you will find and inspiring and creative space curated to open your creativity and get you out of the normal world. Think in color surrounded by art and other artists. See you soon!
